What the Logo Means

· 1 min read

Once the site was designed and built, I needed a mark for it. I did not just want a beautiful logo. I wanted a meaningful one.

The Goodwill Ledger logo: a gold ledger mark shaped around a compass

It carries four ideas at once.

The horizontal lines evoke ledger entries. Ideas, records, and thoughts captured over time.

The vertical axis runs through them like a spine. It stands for integrity, direction, and the discipline that holds a body of work together.

The intersection where the axes cross is the meeting point of the four themes this site returns to: AI, leadership, trust, and institutions.

The small markers around the edges lend a faint compass effect. A north-star reading, pointing toward moral direction and a guiding sense of purpose.

Taken together, it is an abstract ledger mark shaped around a compass. Ideas recorded with discipline, and guided by principle.

I designed the site with Claude, built it with Claude Code, and generated the logo with an image model. A few years ago, producing a mark that carried this much intent would have required a brief, a designer, and weeks. Now, a single person with a clear idea and a capable model can arrive at something specific in an afternoon. The craft has not disappeared. The process has.
